A method that puts information to work

At LIOS, good documentation does not start with writing. It starts with understanding. Our method unfolds in three stages, guided by principles that keep the work consistent — whoever writes it, whatever the project or the format.

  1. Step 1

Scope — Understand your situation before talking about documentation

Not sure where to start? We help you define and prioritize what should be documented first. We meet your experts, review the documentation you already have, watch how the work actually happens, and identify both the friction and the levers — so you share one picture of the work.

Result: a clear scoping note that aligns objectives, the content to produce and the indicators of impact.

  2. Step 2

Produce — Create, validate and deliver in an ongoing conversation

We move forward in validated stages, piece by piece. Our project leads have a solid technical background, so they can draw on your internal expertise without weighing your teams down. Each version is a chance to adjust and improve terminology, tone, format and compliance.

Result: a deliverable that sounds like you, in a format people can use and that is built to evolve.

  3. Step 3

Improve — Measure the impact and keep evolving

Every project is a chance to learn. We assess the results with the indicators set during scoping, gather feedback from your teams and from end users, and identify what to improve.

Result: a collaboration that gets sharper over time and strengthens your ability to maintain your own documentation.

What guides the method

Our principles and standards

At the heart of the method, a set of principles and standards turns your knowledge into content that is accessible, transferable and measurable. These guidelines keep every stage consistent, from analysis to impact.

  1. 01 Start from the real work Understand the ground before you structure anything.
  2. 02 Aim for impact Documentation is never an end in itself.
  3. 03 Create clarity Simplify without thinning the meaning.
  4. 04 Collaborate for real Quality comes from the conversation.
  5. 05 Keep it consistent One tone, one terminology, one logic.
  6. 06 Design for the long run Build it to evolve, not to freeze.
  7. 07 Keep improving Each project feeds the next.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions — our approach

How a LIOS engagement actually unfolds.

Another question? Let’s talk.
What does the LIOS method consist of?

Three stages: scope, to understand your situation and prioritize what should be documented; produce, to create, validate and deliver in stages; improve, to measure the impact with your indicators and keep the content evolving.

What is a scoping note?

A short document produced at the end of the first stage. It aligns business objectives, audiences, the content to produce, the production sequence and the indicators of impact — the shared reference for the rest of the engagement.

How do you keep the work consistent from one writer to the next?

With shared principles and standards: one tone, one terminology, one logic of structure and a set of templates. Consistency does not depend on the writer, the project or the format.

Which tools do you use?

We choose the tool according to how it has to fit with yours: MadCap Flare and other content tools for documentation, Confluence and Jira for collaboration, InDesign and Figma for layout, translation tools for multilingual work, and AI as writing assistance.

Do you work end to end, or one piece at a time?

Both. End to end, we carry the execution and you keep the overview. One piece at a time, we step in on a specific need: editing, translation, layout, content management or a single deliverable.
